Belinda is scheduled for another procedure in DC at the end of the year. Today I’ve been productive, emailing both the organizations that has helped us with lodging, ground transportation, and flights in the past. I’m hoping that next year we might be able to manage these things on our own, but for now, we’re still digging ourselves out from the unemployed season. I sure appreciate these organizations that help with these things. I don’t know what we would have done otherwise. Probably be a lot farther in debt, I guess.
We need to get the procedure over so her swallowing is as good as it can be before the new year, because Belinda has won the Brad Henry Scholarship from NWOSU and will be spending the spring semester studying abroad at Swansea University in Wales. Her passport just came in last night. This is all so very exciting and also a little more concerning when your person has medical issues! I read online that the school will be letting us know what we need to do to obtain health insurance while she is overseas (you have to be there for six months to qualify for free medical in the UK, and she isn’t supposed to be there that long), but with only a few months to go I would really like to get that unknown checked off! I also want to know what happens if for some reason she has to come home early, and what I need to do to get her phone service while she is overseas. It’s a lot!
On the writing front, I have made it a quarter through The Night The Stars Fell and I am in love with this story. But there’s so much research! I greatly admire anyone who has written historical fiction because it is tough! I’m learning a lot though, and that part is great. I’ve been getting more writing done while Mom has her caregivers here at the house. It usually gives me about three hours to get things done. Today I needed to do a newspaper interview in that time, and then I needed to do follow up for the Belinda things and also for the FASFA, but now I have about an hour. I did want to put something on here though, since I have been putting it off for so long! After I’m done with this, I’ll have about an hour and then I need to take Sarah to the orthodontist. And then I need to go to the pharmacy. And then maybe that’s it!
My only other thing of interest is that I’m writing An Introduction to Logic by Irving Copi, and it’s a textbook and it’s definitely not an easy read. The book I have is hard to read in dim light so I also found an old version at archive.org and downloaded it to the Kindle Fire I won in the library summer reading program this year. It’s the first thing I have downloaded to it. So the lighting is better, even if there’s not that smug satisfaction of reading a book that is obviously 70-ish years old. The editions are slightly different, which is interesting. And I can always read the actual paper book when the lighting is good. But sometimes our lamps just aren’t cutting it!
